Yes, Batman and Elektra are breaking up – officially, this time.
After their split and two years apart, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have officially filed for a divorce. The couple shocked their fans and everyone else after announcing the split-up in 2015, exactly one day after their 10th wedding anniversary.
But it’s not exactly what you think – it’s kind of a friendly divorce.
The evidence lies in the fact that the two continue to act like joint-parents by taking vacations together with their children, always praising each other whenever they get the chance and co-parenting their kids, even after their split in 2015.
The couple said, in a joint statement:
“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.”“This will be our only comment on this private, family matter,” they added. “Thank you for understanding.”
The official decision to file for divorce finally came after many rumors and speculations of the couple reconciling.
The couple apparently coordinated their filing sans lawyers, which was first to break the news, with Garner sending her court papers in Thursday and Affleck responding shortly after.
But according to sources, Garner and Affleck have taken their sweet time to iron out the details, like division of property and assets, as well as spousal support – also keeping in mind what’s best for their children.
For example; while promoting his film “Live by Night”, Affleck called his soon to be ex-wife the “world’s greatest mom.” He also talked to Ellen DeGeneres last year about his relationship with Garner:
“We’re good friends and we’re doing our best. And the kids are fabulous and we’re working on our best for them.”
The pair are seeking joint custody of their children, Violet, aged 11, Seraphina, 8, and Samuel, 5.
A source, who’s close with the couple, reportedly told CNN:
“They remain friends and continue to co-parent their three kids amicably. They had always planned to divorce but just needed time. As always, their children are their first priority.”
There is still no specific date set for the separation. The divorce could be made final within the year. Let’s hope that these two amazing actors, who have given us so much, find someone once again.
