The new trailer for the long-awaited sequel for Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic, Blade Runner, is here. Have a look:
The original part featured a blade runner (Harrison Ford) who must pursue and try to terminate four replicants who stole a ship in space and have returned to Earth to find their creator.
The official synopsis for Blade Runner 2049 (courtesy of IMDb):
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
The new trailer features more ominous dialogue from Jared Leto’s villain, plus Ryan Gosling’s beleaguered LAPD officer having a rough encounter with a replicant (David Bautista).
“Every leap of civilization was built off the backs of slaves.”
“Replicants are the future, but I can only make so many. I have the lock, and he has the key.”
The trailer heavily implies that Rick Deckard, reprised by Harrison Ford for Blade Runner 2049, is a replicant, conforming to theories running more than 35 years now. “We were being hunted” is a rather clear statement.
On the record back in May, director Denis Villeneuve was reportedly said:
“We are still exploring the themes of memories and empathy. That’s still part of the deeper tissue … of where the movie evolves in relation to what does it mean to be human.”
The sequel also stars Dave Bautista, Jared Leto, Mackenzie Davis, Robin Wright, Sylvia Hoeks, Barkhad Abdi, and Ana de Armas.
Blade Runner 2049 premieres Oct. 6, 2017.
