It has been coming for a while now and it’s finally official.
The Wonder Woman sequel was already confirmed and now the release date has also been finalized. The sequel will hit theaters December 13, 2019. Warner Bros. announced the hit film’s sequel’s release date late Tuesday.
Gal Gadot is set to reprise her role as Diana of Themyscira, But a director has yet to be set. There has been word of Patty Jenkins returning as director but nothing has been officially announced – yet?
Variety also spoke to DC Films heads Jon Berg and Geoff Johns, and Johns chimed in about the sequel plans.
“Patty and I are writing the treatment right now. The goal is to make another great ‘Wonder Woman’ film. I had a blast making it with Patty the first time. We’ve got a cool idea for the second one.”
Wonder Woman’s success was a bit surprising for most people, but it was all down to the wonderful direction and exceptional performances by the cast. The movie was a major success and as of yet, has grossed over $570 million worldwide to date. It’s the third biggest Warner Bros. movie of all time, surpassed only by The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. It’s also shattering stereotypes by becoming the highest-grossing live-action film directed by a woman, ever. Go, Patty!
Gadot will next appear as Diana Prince in November’s Justice League, alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman, Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s Flash and Ray Fisher’s Cyborg as the DC superhero dream team.
Wonder Woman 2 joins Justice League and Aquaman (Dec. 21, 2018) as the only DC films with release dates. But over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. teased its upcoming slate with logos for films including Shazam!, Flash movie Flashpoint, The Batman, Batgirl, Justice League Dark, Green Lantern Corps and Suicide Squad 2.
